The Professor of Science Education until his appointment by the University Council on July 30, this year, was the Provost of the College of Education Studies.

He takes over from Prof. Domwini Dabire Kuupole, whose term of office ended on September 30.

Chancellor of the university, Dr. Sam E. Jonah, who inducted Prof. Ampiah into office described him as a man of great character, an embodiment of peace and an excellent choice and urged the university community to rally behind him.

Dr. Jonah said Prof. Ampiah was taking office at a challenging time in the education sector, in which the university was grappling with inadequate funding and urged stakeholders to support government to develop the education sector.

He urged Prof. Ampiah to continue the culture of excellence of the university and commended Prof. Kuupole and other former VCs for blazing the trail with policies and programmes and strategically positioning the university.

Prof. Kuupole commended the university community for cooperating with him, and urged it to support the new VC to succeed.

Prof. Ampiah thanked the university for the confidence reposed in him and the opportunity to serve the UCC.

Prof. Ampiah said he would work hard to make UCC a leading university in Ghana and one of the top 100 in Africa.

He said he would promote digital culture, increase research capacity and activity, enhance schorlaship and dissemination of research to local and international audience.

Prof. Ampiah holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Diploma in Education (1987) and a Ph.D.in Science Education(2002) from the UCC.

He was promoted  to the rank of Associate Professor  in 2007 and became full professor in 2010. He has risen through the ranks serving the university in various capacities such as  centre coordinator, department head, dean, acting Pro-Vice Chancellor and provost.
