Wisconsin International University College, Ghana (WIUC), has held its ninth congregation during which 776 students who have completed various postgraduate and undergraduate programmes, graduated.
The number consists of 628 undergraduates, 141 postgraduates and seven diploma students.
Dr. Carlos Arrow, acting Vice-Chancellor of WIUC, addressing the congregation, underscored the need for the youth to be determined, focused and disciplined.
According to him, diligence, discipline and determination were key values the youth needs to be able to succeed and make meaningful impact in national development.
He explained that such values would distinguish them from their peers, saying “thousands of students have graduated this year from over 70 universities in the country and millions more from countries around the world. What will separate you from the rest is the daily application of these principles,” he said.
Dr. Arrow said it was against such background that the university has designed programmes and established faculties to build the capabilities of the youth in a holistic manner.
Among its capacity building interventions, he noted that the university was engaged in a partnership with the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College to develop short courses in counter-terrorism as well as executive leadership training programmes.
In addition, he said the university was expanding its infrastructure and upgrading its systems to admit more students and provide quality education, adding that “Wisconsin has signed a number of agreements with foreign universities to undertake special exchange programmes to build the capacity of students.”
As part of the event, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, presented scholarships to 10 students studying Chinese at the university, while 17 lecturers and staff were honoured for hard work.
