Speaking to The Ghanaian Times on the sidelines of the event, Faustina Amuzu, Managing Director of the NGO, said the organisation was concerned with the challenges of sanitation confronting residents in the municipality.

He urged opinion leaders and the general public to support efforts aimed at preventing the outbreak of cholera and other communicable diseases.

“We all have a role to play in keeping the environment safe. Political parties and other stakeholders must join this campaign to make our municipality clean”, Madam Amuzu said.

Development, she explained was facilitated by conducive environment, adding that it was necessary “we support the local authorities in protecting it.”

Madam Amuzu said that her organisation would use various platforms to sensitise the people to the need to keep and maintain a safe environment.

She said the NGO would work with schools to promote hygiene and undertake tree planting in the municipality.

The forum themed, “Environmental freedom 2016 and beyond”, also offered political parties the platform to discuss their policies on environmental sanitation with the constituents.

The Progressive Peoples Party (PPP), parliamentary for Adentan, Alhaji Mohammed Muftao, said that if voted into power, he would pursue vigorous policies to protect the environment and enhance sanitation.

He said he would partner the Adentan Municipal Assembly to provide facilities for the management of waste.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) official, George Ennin, said an NPP government would pursue afforestation agenda for schools and organisations.

The linguist of the Adenta chief, Nii Okpoti Nsia, bemoaned the lack of gutters and proper drainage system in the municipality, and urged political parties to support the Assembly to construct drains to improve sanitation in Adenta.
