The United Way Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organisation with interest in supporting children’s education and welfare of the marginalised, has appointed Mr Charles Cobbina (alias Kempes) as the Country’s Programmes Manager in-charge of its operations.
This was contained in a press statement copied to the Ghana News Agency, in Accra, on Monday. The statement said Mr Cobbina, who assumed office on January 2, 2017, has more than 20 years’ experience in the field of NGO, having previously worked for ORPED Ghana, CUSO, Play Soccer and SOS Children’s Village Ghana.
Mr Cobbina holds first degree in Agriculture, Masters in Marketing and currently pursuing Law at the Ghana law School. It said the new country manager served as a Social Business Advisor for two years at the SOS Children’s Village Ghana providing specialised facilities for communities and improving the skills of women and young people in business management.
He also served as the National Family Strengthening Progammes Coordinator in-charge of coordinating community activities in 40 communities in four regions. The United Way Ghana currently operates in four regions in the country, including Ashanti, Eastern, Greater Accra and Brong Ahafo that seeks to improve education, income stability and health of the members in the beneficiary communities.
The NGO is a member of the United Way Worldwide with 2.9 million volunteers and 10.3 million donors across the globe. It raises more than five billion dollars annually to support its activities. It is currently working in 1,800 communities in more than 40 countries worldwide seeking to improve the lives of the vulnerable and the less-privileged in the society.
