Known as “Yiedie”, this is being implemented in partnership with MasterCard Foundation and Global Communities.

Under it, young people aged between 17 and 24, would be trained in masonry, carpentry, metal fabrication, interior decoration, electrical works, tiling, steel bending and draftsmanship.

Speaking at its official launch at Esreso in the Bosomtwe District, Mr. George Ebo Wilson, Programmes Coordinator of MasterCard Foundation, said they were targeting people living on less than GH?9.00, a day, in Accra, Kumasi, Sekondi/Takoradi, Tema and Ashiaman.

The five-year project, he indicated, was a response to the high employment among the nation’s youth.  It would create the opportunity for the unemployed to create jobs for themselves and others. He said the beneficiaries would also receive financial literacy education, counselling and access to business development services.

Mrs. Sophia Awotwe, Director of Programmes, Otumfuo Charity Foundation, advised the youth, particularly young women, to take advantage of the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty.

Nana Adu Acheampong Osei Kuffour III, Feyiase Akwamuhene, described the project as a welcomed intervention.
