The PURPLE, a non-profit organisation, would mark the UN International Women’s Day with a women-only conference at the Pentecost University College to inspire female students to excel in their academic pursuit.
The UN has set March 8, every year, to celebrate the day globally in recognition of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.
The PURPLE- “Purposed, United and Relevant Partnerships for Leadership and Enterprise,” would use the day to provide practical keys to the over 500 participants to help them build leadership skills, self-confidence and excel academically.
A press release signed by Mrs Barbara Doku, the Founder of PURPLE, a Nurse and Youth Health Advocate, said these were efforts to help the students to make an all-round impact in the corporate world and in society as the next generation of female leaders and social change agents in the universities.
It said the conference would empower undergraduate female students to celebrate womanhood and bring mostly leading female leaders to mentor the students. The PURPLE was started in 2014 with 600 female students from the University of Ghana and Pentecost University College.
It said it was directly inspired and empowered by successful and prominent women such as Mrs Patience Akyianu, Managing Director of Barclays Bank – Ghana, Mrs Mawuena Trebah, Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Investment Promotion Council, Pastor Mrs Adelaide Heward-Mills, Lighthouse Chapel International, and Mrs Dentaa Amoateng, Chief Executive Officer, GUBA Awards.
The others are Dr Margaret Amoakohene, a former Diplomat to Canada and Director of the Department of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, Mrs Felicia Nkrumah, former Plan-Ghana Communications Specialist, and Miss Steward Jane, an Author, among others.
Mrs Cynthia Lumor, the Corporate Services Executive at MTN, would be the special guest of the conference.
The release said she would be speaking on “Effective Leadership” as a needed pre-requisite for trans-generational development both nationally and in any entrepreneurial initiatives.
Dr Ishmael Ackah, the Energy Policy Director at African Centre for Energy Policy, would speak on “A Guide to Academic and Career Success.”
Mr Tommy O’Dell, the Lead Pastor at Worshiplife and a Senior Communications Strategist, would be speaking on the topic; “The Quintessential Lady: Redefining the 21st Century Lady.”
