The Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipal Education Directorate (LEKMED) on Thursday held it’s forth kindergarten (KG) march past as a prelude to the commemoration of the 60th Independence Day anniversary celebration. The event on the theme: ‘Mobilizing for Ghana’s future’ attracted about 30 kindergarten schools in the municipality with the aim of enhancing enrolment in the Pre-schools.
Mr Yaw Fosu-Danquah, Director of Education, LEKMA, said the event was a deliberate attempt to create a bigger stage for children to participate in the independence anniversary celebrations, hence creating the sense of unity, peace and nation building in the early stages of the children in the municipality.
He said LEKMED since it was carved out as an autonomous Municipality had tried to boost both pupils and teachers’ morale so far as education and its development were concerned. He said “this was done through innovations such as the introduction of the kindergarten march past and cultural festivals”
Mr Oosu-Dankwah said early childhood starts form age 0 to 8, where the child needs adequate attention and care, and it is believed that if children were given the right foundation in education at this level, they would grow to become great achievers.
He commended the teachers at the pre-school level within the Municipality for their commitment and hard work, and urged them to develop and maintain their passion for the teaching profession. “Children are innocent and therefore rely on teachers for everything. If teachers are not patient, enduring and loving, the children under our care and leadership might be led to their destruction.”
He also advised them to apply the right teaching methodology in an affable manner in a conducive ambiance to enhance teaching and learning in their schools. Participating schools include Southern Cluster KG, Teshie Anglican KG, Teshie Salem KG, Teshie Aboma KG, Ebenezer Methodist KG, St Augustine’s Anglican KG, Nungua LEKMA ‘1, 2 and 4’ KG, Nungua Central KG, Teshie Jordan Methodist KG, Teshie Northern Cluster KG, Teshie LEKMA ‘8 and 10’ KG, and Selhurst Montessori.
