The grand event which took place on Saturday was under the theme: Striving for Excellence; Empowered by Holistic Education.

Dr. Evelyn Yayra Bonney, Research Fellow at the Noguchi Memorial Institute who was the guest speaker pointed out that holistic education goes beyond academia.

She said it also encompasses the physical, social, psychological, emotional and spiritual training of the individual and preparing him or her to shine distinctively in society.

Dr. Bonney who is also an old student of the school said that those attributes were the hallmark of OLA, Ho and, therefore, entreated the students to study diligently towards a bright future.

“The education offered and received here in OLA, Ho is truly holistic since it aims to prepare us for living meaningful and fulfilling lives beyond secondary education,” she added.

Furthermore, the guest speaker said that the many alumni that had excelled in their chosen careers and family lives bore ample testimony to the unique training offered within the walls of the school.

Dr. Bonney touched on time management and said that time was of great essence while striving for excellence because it was a non-renewable resource.

“You cannot be playing or indulging in unnecessary activities while others are studying and expect to excel,” she cautioned.

Earlier, the headmistress, Madam Benedicta Afesi said that for the 2015 /16 WASSCE, OLA Ho again scored 100 per cent.

“Although we had some challenges in Mathematics and Economics, the general performance was good and saw most of our students in many tertiary institutions in the country,” she stated.

The headmistress, announced that one student from the school, Miss Erica Mensah had won the 2017 Presidential Award, under which the state would be responsible for the payment of her fees for three years.

The Head Girl, Miss Matilda Adzamah, stated that no students had been withdrawn or suspended for any act of misconduct in recent times and that was a clear indication of the high standard of discipline in the school.

The Volta Regional Minister, Dr. Archibald Letsa who graced the event, said the school authorities had played their role to put in their very best to impart knowledge in the students.

He however, added that it was the responsibility of the students to put in their best to achieve excellence.

Prizes were awarded to deserving students, with the award for the overall-best student going to 17-year-old Enyonam Mansah Gasu, a form three science student.
