As part of its expansion programme in Africa, Johnson and Johnson Multinational Pharmaceutical Company has established a West African Office in Accra, Ghana to cater for the health and collaborative activities.
The office would help in coordinating the company’s global public health capabilities and resources to deliver a sustainable, measurable impact against public health needs in health.
This was contained a news release copied to the Ghana News Agency at the sidelines of the official launch of the West African hub in Accra.
Madam Priscilla Owusu-Sekyere, Country Manager of the Johnson and Johnson Office in Accra said the idea was to improve the quality and access to healthcare in West Africa.
“We are buiding a talented team that will lead to expansion of our product portfolio and continue to address many of the most prominent health issues impacting patients and health providers here.
“Specifically our team will address the health issues that matter most to Ghana by patronising new initiatives in mental health, diabetes, maternal, newborn and child health, HIV prevention and Oncology.”
She said the team in Ghana would translate the company’s strategy into locally executable programmes that drive health impact in collaboration with local delivery partners and business teams from the company that would collaborate with academic centres and entrepreneurs to explore local innovative healthcare-based initiatives.
Mr Alma Scot, Vice Preident of Global Operations and partnerships for the company said they would collaborate with local governments, Non-Government Organisations and Community-based Organisations to uncover novel service delivery models.
He said they would introduce new programmes, treatments and technologies that would help address priority health issues impacting the country.
Johnson and Johnson has been a major sponsor of several programmes already in Ghana focused on building professional capacity, strengthening health systems and providing care to neglected or vulnerable patient communities.
They had partnered Medical Surgical Skills Institute and the Management Development institute to advance health-related training in West Africa for healthcare professionals and government leaders.
