Distinguished personalities who are role models for the youth of Gowrie Community in the Bongo District of the Upper East, have urged the youth in the area and the country at large never to give up in life but aspire higher.
Among the distinguished personalities from the Gowrie Community who inspired the youth at the Public Lecture, organized in the community included the Chief Executive Officer of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority, Mr Charles Abugre, the former Member of Parliament for the Bongo Constituency and the former Regional Minister, Mr Albert Abongo, Dr Evans Nsoh, the Director of the Pong Tamale Veterinary Training College and Mr Thomas Apana Akane, Chartered Accountant and Chief Accountant of the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.
The Public lecture which was organized by the Akantaaba Youth Association of Gowrie was to create a platform for the role models, to interact with the youth and encourage them to strive for the best.
All the speakers, giving their background said they shepherded animals when they were young but did not give up on education until they achieved what they wanted in life and urged the youth not to take shortcut to making it but should take their education serious.
Mr Abugre told the youth that the family support in those days played a very significant role in supporting many school pupils and students and cited for instance where both his parents and the parents of the former Regional Minister complemented each other in taking good care of them in their education.
He indicated that to give back to society, he also supported a lot of brilliant but needy students from the community to have good education. “This is how life must go, I do not regret in doing so. Life is about values. If you’re rich you need to demonstrate it by supporting the needy in society,” he said. The Chief Executive further admonished the youth to be very creative and explore their talents to develop themselves instead of relying on government to provide them with jobs after their education.
Dr Nosh stressed the need for the Ghana Education Service to strengthen the Career Counseling Units to offer good counseling to students when it comes to the selection of their programmes. Mr Akane, disabused the minds of the youth that Accounting as a subject was all about calculations and indicated that the Accounting subject was rather more of principles than calculations as perceived by others.
Mr Clement Akasoba , the Regional Director of the National Communication Authority, who blamed the failure of many youth to laziness, admonished such youth to change their attitude. Mr Akolbila Roland, the Patron of the Association commended the distinguished personalities for sharing their success stories in life with them and said it would help them realize their dreams in life.
