The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, in the Western Region, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah says the chunk of cocoa produced by farmers at Adubrim and neighbouring communities, would no longer go waste, with the construction of a local steel bridge at Adubrim.
He joined the chiefs and people to pay tribute to farmers who had lost their lives in the past in crossing the river "Nrele” in an attempt to cart their produce from their farms to the Produce Buying Centre at the Asasetre cocoa shed.
Mr Buah was speaking at a ceremony to inaugurate the Adubrim bridge in the Ellembelle District, to open up the area to other farming communities. Mr Buah said the construction of the bridge had been his vision for the past eight years and therefore thanked other stakeholders such as the District Assembly, Feeder Roads and SRI EMAS, a private company which sponsored the project as well as the chiefs and people of the area.
The bridge, the MP observed served as a transformational tool as it would facilitate the movement of goods and services and better the living conditions of people along Adubrim to Ngabawie stretch.
Mr Buah said under his leadership, the area had witnessed massive developmental projects such as provision of electricity, asphalt roads, clinic and the construction of bridges. The Chief of Adubrim, Nana Assuah Miah III, expressed gratitude to the MP for developmental initiatives in the area and appealed to him to construct the road from Adubrim to Asomenti.
He named the bridge after Mr Buah and appealed to him to assist the communities get a market at Adubrim where they could bring their commodities for display. Nana Miah said the area had lagged behind development until Mr Buah won the Ellembelle and started to demonstrate true leadership to the communities.
The Acting District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Mr Innocent Haligah said the socio-economic benefits of the bridge was enormous and pledged the support of the Assembly to meet the demands of the people. The Regional Feeder Roads Engineer, Mr Joseph Miezah said the Director of Feeder Roads was not happy when they visited the area and noticed how people died when crossing the river in a boat.
He disclosed that the Adubrim-Akropong-Dwira Banso feeder road would be considered for construction to open up the area to the rest of the District. He said his outfit would liaise with the MP and the District Assembly to put all the roads into good shape. Mr Miezah therefore appealed to the people not to temper with anything on the steel bridge but should rather do well to ensure its life span.
