The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held the Ghana Constitution game competition for some students in the northern sector with the aim to deepen their understanding of the country’s Constitution.
The competition was aimed at helping students to acquaint themselves with the provisions of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and students’ general thinking knowledge to prepare them for the future.
Schools that participated in the northern sector event, which was held in Tamale, were the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the University for Development Studies (UDS).
Mrs Sylvia Annor, a Member of the NCCE, said the goal of the game was to inculcate into the citizenry the principles and objectives of the Constitution by using game play and learning format to ensure that all uphold the tenets of the Constitution at all times.
Mrs Annor said though the previous versions of the competition made some remarkable strides, the NCCE found it necessary to build on those successes.
Mr Salifu Saeed, Northern Regional Minister, whose speech was read on his behalf, commended the NCCE for the initiative saying, “It will generate the citizens’ interests to study the Constitution since majority of the people do not know the provisions contained in it.”
