According to him, the Northern Region is too big to be administered by one regional minister, and that the chunk of the resources allocated to the region went to the regional capital and surrounding towns to the detriment of remote towns and villages.

He said the North East Region, if created, should have Gambaga as its regional capital.

Dr Yambah, who stated this at a press conference at Peki, noted that it would be appropriate for the capital to be at Gambaga because the town served as the administrative capital of the northern territory from 1897 to 1902 during the colonial era.

He added that Gambaga had numerous facilities relative to education, health, roads, security, among others, in the Northern Region.

He said Gambaga was the ancestral home of the Nayiri and all other past paramount chiefs of the Mamprugu Traditional Area.

He explained that the paramountcy of the Mamprugu Traditional Area was moved to Nalerigu because the chief at the time did not want to share the administrative seat with the colonial master, necessitating the decision to move to Nalerugu with Gambaga as its regional capital.

He explained that infrastructure development projects by the central government, such as roads, water, telecommunication network, primary health care and educational facilities in the other parts of the region would be spread across the other parts of the region.
