Reverend Jones Sawyer, the Senior Pastor of God’s Strength Ministry, has described illegal mining as an evil act, which needed to be stopped. He said: “Those who engage in galamsey only seek their personal interests as they destroy the environment without thinking about the repercussions on the state.”
Rev. Sawyer said this at the dedication of the Church’s building at Haatso in Accra.
He said the act destroyed water bodies and vegetation and appealed to the citizens to think about the future of the country and the generations to come. “Thinking about yourself and family alone without considering the nation means you are greedy.”
The Senior Pastor called on the citizenry to put the interest of the nation first and desist from attitudes and activities that retarded progress. He commended the Government and all stakeholders for leading the fight against illegal mining, which is yielding some results.
Touching on education, Rev. Sawyer said the implementation of the Free Senior High School Policy was helping many a Ghanaian child to acquire SHS education and commended the Government for the initiative.
He said the Church would soon put up a hospital and a school to cater for its members, especially the poor and needy. He tasked religious leaders to desist from practices that may tarnish the image of the clergy.
