Mr Kofi Asante said this during the 2019 World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) conference, where he engaged the Director, Telecommunication Development Bureau, Ms Doreen Bogdan-Martin on key projects such as Digital Inclusion and Innovation.

A statement issued in Accra by the Corporate Affairs Department of GIFEC quoted Mr Asante as saying the overarching objective of the significant meeting, "is to position GIFEC as a critical player championing the key priority projects of ITU within Ghana and the sub-region."

The Telecommunication Development Bureau has set for itself specific priority projects some of which include Digital Inclusion and Innovation.

The Digital Inclusion Project seeks to empower people particularly, the vulnerable and less privileged in society including persons with disabilities, women and girls, youth and children through Information Communication Technologies (ICTs).

The statement said the innovation programme on the other hand, has been set by the Bureau was to assist countries, cities and ecosystems address the challenges by empowering them to accelerate their digital transformation.

"The main objectives of the programme are to strengthen the ITU-D membership capabilities to integrate ICT innovation in their national development agenda and develop strategies that promote innovation initiatives through public, private and public-private partnerships," it said.

 The World Summit on Information Society, a subsidiary of ITU, a UN agency on Information Communication Technologies, is a multi-stakeholder platform, facilitating the implementation of the WSIS Action Lines for advancing sustainable development.
