Connection is the buzzword of the last decades. Connection is about people, societies but also universities. The deepening and expansion of globalization and digitalization closely link universities in a reciprocal need to educate young generations to the future job market. Against this backdrop, Luiss Guido Carli and Renmin University of China decided to invest in academic connection launching the first global Social Sciences Universities Network (SSUN).
Representatives of over twenty top universities from all over the world will participate to the first SSUN meeting held on November 4th-5th at Luiss University in Rome.
Rectors and Chairmen from Argentina, Brazil, China, Columbia, Germany, Ghana, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Nigeria, Norway, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, The Netherlands, United Kingdom will discuss together new teaching and research models able to address the new challenges faced by Higher Education.
The purpose of the SSUN is to go beyond STEM-centricity (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), suggesting additional paths and strategies to modernize education.
While STEAMs are important, Social Sciences (Business, Economics, Law, Politics, etc.) are also essential to train future leaders who are able to manage complex system in a sustainable and fair way. In this sense it is possible to interpret the decision to award the Economics Nobel Prize to professors Esther Duflo and Abhijiti Banarjiee. The theory is focused on the role that Social Sciences, and Economy, must assume in the reconstruction of a civil and respectful public debate worldwide.
The Network will constitute an international platform of exchange and communication for researchers, professors and students fostering cooperation between universities in talent training, scientific research and academic innovation.
By fully leveraging the research results of all member universities, the Social Sciences Universities Network will also provide policy analysis and proposals with a global perspective, for both national governments and international organizations.
Main guests of the event will be Stefania Giannini Assistant Director-General for Education, UNESCO, Hans Reitz Head of the Global Social Business Summit and managing director of The Grameen Creative Lab and Italian Minister of Education, University and Research Lorenzo Fioramonti.
