The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has called on Ghanaians to support mothers and children by promoting and encouraging breastfeeding.
The FDA emphasised the numerous health benefits of breastfeeding for both infants and mothers, urging the public to play an active role in fostering a supportive environment.
Breastfeeding is known to provide essential nutrients and antibodies that help protect infants from common childhood illnesses. It also promotes bonding between mother and child and contributes to the overall well-being of both.
The FDA in a statement on World Breastfeeding Week 2024 dated Saturday, August 10 noted “Let us join in our endeavours to support every mother and child, ensuring that breastfeeding is not only encouraged but empowered.”
“Together, we can close the gap and provide the support needed to make breastfeeding a reality for every family.”
The Authority used the opportunity to acknowledge the support and partnership of UNICEF.
“We are creating safe spaces and making our nation a better place for all mothers and children by building on last year’s successes and addressing the remaining gaps,” it added.
