The Pre-Tertiary Teachers Association of Ghana (PRETAG) has called for allowances and incentives for teachers serving in deprived and hard-to-reach communities, nationwide.
Formerly known as the Coalition of Concerned Teachers, Ghana (CCT-GH), the association also asked the government to do more to enhance the condition of service of teachers.
Mr Owusu Achiaw, the Chairman of the Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Chapter of the PRETAG made the call in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, to mark the annual Workers Day celebration (May Day).
He said with the allowance and other incentives, teachers serving in those deprived communities would redouble their efforts to improve the academic performance of school children.
That, he said, would further inspire teachers to accept postings, stay and serve in hard-to-reach communities.
Mr Achiaw however commended the government for doing everything possible to enhance the condition of service of teachers, asking the government to do more for teachers.
