A delegation from China’s Fujian Jiangxia University has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Ministry of Education to initiate a partnership with Ghanaian universities, aiming to foster academic collaboration and cultural exchange.
The team was received on Friday by the Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, who represented the Minister, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu. Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Apaak, who is also the Member of Parliament for Builsa South, described the visit as timely and promising.
“Ghana is stable, and we are happy that you have visited Ghana to have a partnership with Ghanaian universities,” he said, adding that Ghana values the collaboration and sees great potential in learning from China’s development trajectory. “We value this opportunity and believe the outcome will be mutually beneficial.”
The Chinese delegation was led by Mr. Ling Qidan, President of Fujian Jiangxia University. He was joined by Professor Zhang Yongpeng from the Institute of International and Area Studies, Professor Zheng, Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Secretary Jiang, and Dr. Samuel Kofi Darkwa.
Mr. Ling highlighted the university’s diverse academic strengths, particularly in Chinese language instruction, agriculture, engineering, and the humanities. He expressed optimism about the future of cooperation with Ghanaian institutions.
As part of the partnership, Fujian Jiangxia University has pledged to offer scholarships to Ghanaian students and establish both student and faculty exchange programmes. The areas identified for collaboration include Public Foreign Language Education, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, Finance, and Economics.
The university already maintains strong ties with academic institutions across the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Finland, and seeks to expand its global footprint through this Ghanaian engagement.
Also present at the meeting were Chief Director of the Ministry of Education, Madam Mamle Andrews; Director-General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai; and Director of Tertiary Education, Mr. Emmanuel Newman.
