As Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Elections Committee, I wish to assure all stakeholders that preparations toward the upcoming GJA National and Regional Elections, scheduled for Monday, June 30, 2025, are progressing steadily.
Together with my hardworking committee members and under the technical guidance of our advisor from the Electoral Commission of Ghana, we remain committed to organising, conducting, and supervising a credible, transparent, and fair election in line with best practices.
Regrettably, we have observed attempts by some individuals to undermine the process by casting aspersions on the introduction of proxy voting and suspicions of a bloated register without providing any evidence.. Let me state emphatically that proxy voting is a legitimate and widely accepted component of modern democratic electoral systems. What matters most is ensuring that the process is safeguarded against abuse—and we have taken stringent steps to do just that.
It is unfortunate when people project their own standards onto others and seek to create doubt without presenting verifiable facts. Credible concerns are welcome and will be addressed on their merit, but attempts to derail the process based on emotion and suspicion must be discouraged.
For context, in the last GJA election, I served as Secretary of the Elections Committee. My colleague and I had to step up and lead the process when the then-Chairman resigned abruptly just four days before the election. Despite the sudden challenge, we conducted the election successfully. I say this to underscore our resilience and dedication to duty.
Today, with just a week to the polls, we note ongoing efforts by certain stakeholders to sow doubt and frustration. Let me be clear: this Chairman is not going anywhere. I intend to see this process through—faithfully, professionally, and to the glory of God and the service of our Association.
This evening, my Committee and I, together with the EC Technical Advisor, will engage all the candidates in the spirit of unity, transparency, and professionalism.
Let us all work together to uphold the integrity of the GJA and safeguard the democratic culture we all cherish.
