The 2025 Hogbetsotso festival of the people of Anlo was launched at Ohawu in the Ketu North Municipality in the Volta Region last Saturday.
The theme for this year’s celebration is: “Building bridges - From common history to common destiny.”
The celebration will be climaxed with a grand durbar on November 1, at Anloga.
The launch was graced by the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu.
The Awadada of Anlo, Togbi Agbesi Awusu II, urged the government to expedite action to transform the Ohawu Agricultural College into a university.
He said that would help to promote agricultural innovation, food security, and youth employment.
The Awadada urged the people of Anlo to support the festival and contribute generously towards the development agenda it symbolised.
The Principal of Ohawu Agricultural College, Ernest M.K. Abiew, stated that the institution faced numerous infrastructural and logistical challenges, jeopardising its smooth operation.
Among them, he said, were the lack of reliable internet service, inadequate staff accommodation, students’ halls of residence, lecture halls, and furniture.
He said the challenges notwithstanding, the college anticipated a better future with the status of an agricultural university.
The highlights of the festival include children’s durbars across Anlo Dukor and a unity concert at Anloga.
The Awoamefia of Anlo, Torgbui Sri III, will sit in state at Woe on October 31.
As part of those highlights, a Volta Economic Forum will be held at Whuti on October 31, before the much anticipated Mama Hogbe Pageant in the evening, in Keta.
On the same day, Glimetoto, the exodus of the Anlos from Notsie, will be relived in Anloga during the day on October 31.
The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, urged traditional authorities to uphold the spirit of unity to promote development.
The regional minister said there were now too many chieftaincy disputed disputes in the region scaring away investors.
"Our migration from Notse will only become a blessing when we are bonded as one people," he added.
