Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has presented diplomatic passports to five distinguished Ghanaians in recognition of their international influence and contributions to promoting the country’s image abroad.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, September 17, at the launch of the 2025 Diaspora Summit in Accra, an event jointly organised by the Office of the President – Diaspora Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The recipients are travel vlogger [video blogger] Wode Maya (Berthold Kobby Winkler Ackon), Grammy-nominated reggae artist Rocky Dawuni, broadcaster and entrepreneur Anita Erskine, contemporary visual artist Ibrahim Mahama, and British-Ghanaian entrepreneur Dentaa Amoateng MBE.
Mr Ablakwa explained that the honour was granted under the authority conferred on the Foreign Minister by NLCD 155. He noted that the recipients had consistently raised Ghana’s profile internationally and would now be supported with diplomatic passports to continue their efforts. “Congratulations; keep bringing Ghana renown,” he wrote in a Facebook post announcing the initiative.
Each of the five honourees has carved a unique space in their respective fields. Wode Maya has become a celebrated YouTuber showcasing African destinations and entrepreneurship, while Rocky Dawuni’s music and activism have positioned him as a cultural ambassador for peace and the environment. Anita Erskine has built a reputation as a leading broadcaster and advocate for women’s empowerment, and Ibrahim Mahama has gained international recognition for his large-scale visual art installations. Dentaa Amoateng, founder of the GUBA Awards and GUBA Enterprise, has been instrumental in fostering stronger connections between Ghana and its diaspora.
