Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, the Director-General of Prisons, was among 23 exceptional individuals recognised at the Annual Predecessors Award in Accra on September 20, 2025.
The award ceremony honoured outstanding achievements across various fields, including law, arts, education, health, and leadership.
Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie received the prestigious award in the law category, acknowledging her remarkable contributions to the Ghana Prisons Service over 37 years.
As a seasoned corrections and security expert, she has championed initiatives to enhance prison security, promote gender inclusivity, and improve working conditions.
Her dedication to the welfare of inmates and officers has earned her this well-deserved recognition.
As the second female Director General of Prisons, and a visionary leader, Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie was committed to driving transformative change through the flagship initiative “THINK PRISONS 360 DEGRESS.”
The comprehensive agenda focuses on key areas, including: Rebranding the Ghana Prisons Service, Enhancing welfare of officers and inmates, Agricultural mechanization, Modernization, Advocacy, Industrialization, Digitalization and Wealth creation, with the aim of revolutionizing the Service, promoting a more efficient, effective and humane correctional system.
The award ceremony featured a memorable dinner, where honorees and distinguished guests celebrated the outstanding impacts made by the awardees.
The founding President of Predecessors Awards Worldwide, Mr. Raphael Antwi, congratulated the awardees and announced a legacy project: a book chronicling the stories and contributions of the 23 honorees.
This project aims to immortalize their achievements and inspire future generations.
Other notable awardees included Madam Joyce Mahama, Professor Elsie Effa Kaufmann, Mr James Kow Annan, and Dr Kudzo K. Alabo, among others.
The recognition highlights the Director General’s commitment to excellence and her significant impact on the Ghana Prisons Service and beyond.
