The Ghana Gold Board (GGB ) has arrested 25 individuals for their alleged involvement in the illegal gold trading in Ghana.
According to the Ghana Gold Board, they were arrested after weeks of intelligence-led surveillance.
The suspects comprising both foreign and Ghanaian nationals, were apprehended in two separate operations at Dome Pillar 2 and Achimota-Akweteman in Accra on November 5th and 6th, 2025.
The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Ghana Gold Board, Richard Nunekpeku at a press conference in Accra on Monday (Nov 10, 2025) said in the first operation, five suspects, including four Indian nationals and one Ghanaian, were arrested at a jewellery shop at Dome Pillar 2.
This, he said, was contrary to Section 23(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29) and Section 26(3) and (5) of the Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
He said the joint team retrieved several items, including 26 pieces of GRA moissante emerald stones, 19 rings suspected to be gold, and six pieces of 10-karat yellowish metals, multiple mobile phones and a CCTV decoder and a locked metallic safe.
In a related operation at Legend Precious Metals at Achimota-Akweteman, 20 suspects involved in unlicensed gold trading, smuggling, and assaying were also picked up.
Those suspects also include Ghanaian and foreign nationals from Belarus, the United Kingdom, the United States, Argentina, Sweden, and Russia.
Eight gold bars, $112,500 in cash, and GH?64,014 in cash, along with several documents including sales agreements, assay reports, and receipts were also retrieved.
He said some suspects were also found in possession of unlicensed firearms, which were confiscated.
