The Ministry of Health has opened admissions into six post-basic specialised nursing programmes at health training institutions across the country, with applications running from March 3 to March 26, 2026.

The announcement, issued on March 4, 2026 and signed by Chief Director Mr Desmond Boateng for the Minister of Health, links the programmes to the government’s Ghana Medical Trust Fund, known as MahamaCares, and the Ghana Labour Exchange Programme.

It states that the expansion is aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery in support of the two initiatives.

The six areas of specialisation are Critical Care Nursing, Emergency Nursing, Cardiology Nursing, Nephrology Nursing, Endocrinology Nursing and Oncology Nursing.

Training will take place at five institutions in three cities. These are the Peri-Operative and Critical Care School at Korle Bu, Nursing and Midwifery Training College campuses in Korle Bu, Kumasi and Tamale, and the Ear, Nose and Throat School in Kumasi.

The notice states that the move responds to rising cases of non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, cancer and kidney failure, as well as the increasing movement of specialised health workers to other countries.

Applicants are required to hold a diploma in Registered General Nursing, Midwifery or Registered Mental Health Nursing. They must have completed a one-year rotation, internship or national service, and have at least two years of work experience in a relevant field. A valid PIN from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana is also required. Applicants must not be above 40 years and must be medically fit.

Applications are to be submitted online through the Ministry’s portal at https://register.healthtraining.gov.gh
 at a fee of GH¢150.00. After payment, applicants will receive a voucher with a unique PIN and serial number to complete the process and track their application. They are also required to upload scanned copies of their academic and professional certificates, along with their residential and Ghana Post digital addresses.

The programme will run for four semesters. Successful candidates will be awarded a Bachelor of Science degree by the University of Cape Coast.

They will also qualify for associate membership of the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives and licensure from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana. Admitted applicants will be granted study leave.
