Community fire volunteers of Akyerede, a farming community located along the Nkoranza/Ejura road, on Tuesday organized communal labour to de-silt gutters.
Whilst the men worked on the bridge that linked Ayerede with Dimango feeder road, the women swept the road and removed the rubbish scooped from gutters.
Mr. Samuel Fordjour Hanson, Chairman of the volunteers, told the Ghana News Agency that they periodically organized communal labour to encourage the people to keep their environment clean.
Mr. Hanson said the main problem that faced the community was how some livestock owners left their animals to roam about and appealed to officials of the District Environmental Health Division to ensure regular visits to the community and arrest livestock farmers.
Madam Rose Appau, Assemblywoman of the area, praised the volunteers for their communal spirit and concern for the development of the community.
Madam Appau appealed to the district assembly to assist the volunteers with materials such as Wellington boots and cutlasses.
