The Islamic Development Bank (IDB) confirmed Monday that it would offer 130 million U.S. dollars for rebuilding the cyclone-battered districts in Bangladesh.
An anonymous philanthropist in January this year donated the amount of 130 million dollars to the IDB for rebuilding the cyclone-battered districts of Bangladesh. It is the largest single private donation in the country's history.
In this regards, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed here Monday between the Bangladeshi government and the IDB.
Dr. Ahmad Mohamed Ali, visiting IDB President and Aminul Islma Bhuiyan, secretary of the Economic Relations Division (ERD) under Finance Ministry, signed the deal on behalf of their respective sides.
Out of the 130 million dollars fund, 110 million dollars will be utilized for setting up nearly 500 cyclone shelters cum primary schools and remaining 20 million dollars for reconstruction of the damaged agricultural, fisheries and small businesses in the cyclone Sidr-hit coastal areas.
An official said the IDB with the help of the government will start setting up the cyclone shelters cum primary schools in 18 cyclone-prone coastal districts soon.
