Madam Comfort M. Pinto, Techiman sub-project coordinator of Heifier International-Ghana has commended Abrono Organic Farming Project (ABOFAP) at Forikrom for not abusing the privileges given to its farmers to engage in productive agriculture.
Madam Pinto made the commendation when she visited more than 20 group farmers of ABOFAP farming projects at Fiaso, Forikrom, Tanoso and Traa.
The more than 100 farmers have, through the Operational for Industrialization Center International (OICI), under the auspices of Heifer International-Ghana, were given female sheep and goats, bee-hives in addition to provision of commercial chickens for poultry farming.
Madam Pinto said the programme, which was begun in 2003 and dubbed "pass-on the gift", had reached out to other communities and group farmers in Techiman.
She said Heifer International was geared towards the alleviation of poverty and hunger in the communities and that it had been able to establish bee hiving projects in more than 60 communities located in seven regions in the country.
Nana Kwaw Adams, Twafohene of Forikrom and Executive Director of ABOFAP, said the 20 farmers had been able to spill-out to other 20 farmer groups in ABOFAP operational communities.
