Nana Kwaku Nketiah, Brong-Ahafo Regional Chairman of Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has called for collaboration between members and National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) to promote education.
Nana Nketiah made the call when addressing members of Nkoranza District branch of GNAT as part of a working visit to the district.
"GNAT as a professional association would continue to be strong and the leadership would not relent in its efforts to ensure members welfare needs were provided and sustained to maintain their interest in the association," he said.
Nana Nketiah said the leadership of GNAT had submitted proposals to Parliament for approval of an improved pension scheme for retiring teachers under the SSNIT Pension Policy.
"Teachers who would retire under the new SSNIT Pension Scheme would no longer complain and would not compare themselves with their colleagues who received huge sums of money under the CAP 30 Pension Scheme," he added.
In addition, Nana Nketiah said they were negotiating with Government to improve working conditions and salaries of teachers and advised members to exercise restraint and offer dedicated service.
Mr J.M. Afram, Coordinator at Nkoranza District Directorate of Education, in-charge of integrated personnel payroll data complained that teachers' inputs submitted to Controller and Accountant General's Department (CAGD), often delayed and this affected activities at the directorate.
He appealed to the leadership of GNAT to visit CAGD regularly to address the problem.
Mr Paul Baffoe-Ansah, Nkoranza District Chairman of GNAT stressed the need for teachers to regularly visit the association's offices to acquaint themselves with issues and programmes being implemented for their welfare.
