Nana Agyei Kwame II, Chief of Worakose in the Bosomtwe District of Ashanti has called for increased advocacy on good family planning practices as a panacea for poverty reduction in the country.
He explained that having too many children than one could cater for would only aggravate the country's high unemployment rate and crime wave in view of the current global economic trends.
Nana Agyei Kwame was addressing the launch of a family planning programme held in the town at the weekend.
It was organised by the District Health Management Team (DHMT) in collaboration with some traditional leaders in the District.
He said giving birth to a few children that one could adequately cater for by providing the requisite education and training would go a long way to enhance the human resource base for accelerated economic development.
Nana Agyei Kwame therefore advised parents to patronize various family planning methods to help plan their families properly.
Dr Mrs Agartha Bonney, Bosomtwe District Director of Health Services said there was the need for people to take keen interest in health issues and embrace family planning as a way of creating wealth.
She commended Quality Health Partners, a five year USAID project designed to provide evidence based support to the Ghana Health Service, for their role in supporting the provision of quality health care delivery in the country.
Dr Bonney cautioned the people to desist from peddling false information about family planning and allow the professionals to do their work to improve the lives of the entire populace.
She urged couples to always get in touch with health care providers in their communities for the best advice on their health care.
Dr Luiz Amoussou-Gohoungo, a representative of Quality Health Partners said his outfit would continue to partner the government to help improve health delivery in the country.
Mr James Fosu, District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe pledged the Assembly's support for the development of health facilities and health care in the district.
He cautioned men not to shirk their parental responsibilities and support their spouses in planning their families to stem the high incidence of broken homes.
Madam Christiana Donkor, District Public Health Nurse educated the gathering on the various family planning methods.
