Humanitarian Foundation, a
non-governmental organisation (NGO) operating in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District, has collaborated with the National Malaria Control Programme to establish mosquito bed net re-treatment centres in five communities to combat malaria.
The communities are Breman Nwomaso, Breman Benin, Breman Ayeipey, Breman Baako and Breman Amoanda, Mr Dawuda Adams, Executive Director of the NGO, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview.
People from the community the NGO had trained are manning the centres.
Mr Adams said the establishment of the centres was part of efforts to
control malaria that has become a serious health problem in the district.
He said statistics from Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma showed that malaria constituted about 22 percent of Out Patients Department (OPD) hospital attendance in the district.
Mr Dawuda appealed to the communities and surrounding villages to send their expired nets to the centres for free re-treatment.
