The Ghana Evangelical Society on Wednesday expressed concern that the clergy had strayed from preaching righteousness, saying this had led many Christians to pursue materialism and pleasure.
It said deviating from preaching the message of the cross to preaching worldly gains contradicted with the Gospel of Jesus Christ and would not transform society in any way.
"Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach. It is only through righteousness that we can transform the country", Apostle Enoch A. Agboso, Leader of the Society said at a news conference in Accra.
He also called on churches to assume their prophetic roles by providing God's counsel to government for a prosperous nation.
Apostle Agboso urged all Ghanaians to remain united and have confidence in God, since the country's peace and security was assured.
He congratulated President John Evans Atta Mills and urged him not to forsake God in his administration.
Apostle Agboso also asked all Ghanaians to remain united and continue to pray for the nation.
