The UN Special Rapporteur on extra judicial executions Philip Altson on Monday expressed confidence that his report on extra-judicial killings in Kenya will form the basis on which the Kenyan government will act to end the killings in the country.
Speaking during a meeting with Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Nairobi, Altson noted that there was commitment to eliminate extra- judicial killings by the government officials.
The UN Rapporteur who is on his second week of investigations, said he would first present the report to the government of Kenya which he expected to act upon.
"I expect the government to take the report seriously and implement its recommendations once I present it to them," Altson told journalists in Nairobi.
He lauded the Premier for instructing the relevant security agents to ensure that extra-judicial killings end in Kenya.
The Prime Minister said they had very useful discussions with the Rapporteur covering extra-judicial killings and the post- election violence
in the country.
The Premier reiterated his commitment to the rule of law saying he had spoken very strongly against extra-judicial killings and violence against innocent people. He said he expected the police to use limited force to apprehend offenders and arraign them in court.
"For good governance to prevail in this country, we must respect the rule of law. Citizens must respect the law as well as government," Odinga said.
