The Police at Hohoe in the Volta Region are questioning a 38-year-old Gordon Adansah of Ve-Golokwati who is suspected of attempting to commit suicide after beating another man to death.
The deceased, David Mireku, reportedly died on January 21, a day after he and the suspect engaged in a brawl, Mr Daniel Ablordey, Hohoe Municipal Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).
Eyewitnesses had told the GNA that during the brawl, Adansah subjected Mireku to severe beatings, hitting his head, neck and ribs several times.
Mireku reportedly died while preparations were being made to take him to hospital.
Adansah reportedly fled the town into the bush following Mireku's death but was found by the local Asafo group with a deep cut on his throat, suspected to be a botched suicide attempt.
The suspect was later referred to the Volta Regional Hospital for treatment.
