A five-day training workshop for 50 teachers in the Fanteakwa District to improve the teaching of Science in upper primary schools, ended at Begoro at the Weekend.
The programme, which was organized by the District Directorate of Education and sponsored by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), sought to equip participants with requisite knowledge and skills in teaching the subject.
Mr. Nathaniel Lawer Apronti, Eastern Regional GNAT secretary, observed that teaching of science in abstract made some basic school children to dislike the subject.
He urged science teachers to make the teaching of the subject practical to sustain the interest of students and to guide them to be able to undertake science projects.
Mr. Apronti said GNAT would monitor schools in the district to ensure the application of skills and knowledge acquired by participants for the benefit of students.
Mr. Fabian Belieb, Upper East Regional Director of Education and member of the Ghana Association of Science Teachers (GAST), said the association would support hardworking science teachers to enable them to effectively teach the subject.
He urged the teachers to improvise materials for teaching and learning science and to share the experience acquired at the workshop with colleagues who could not take part in the programme.
Science equipment was distributed to the participants.
