A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced Baba Issa, a taxi driver to three years imprisonment on his own plea for stealing a cheque for GH¢1,000 belonging to Prophet Ebenezer Adarkwa-Yiadom, Founder of Ebenezer Miracle Church at Ahenema Kokobeng in Atwima Kwanwoma District of Ashanti Region.
Police Chief Inspector Nana Fosu told the court presided over by Mr Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that on May 20, this year, a member of the church issued the cheque for Prophet Adarkwa-Yiadom.
He said the complainant gave it to a Pastor of the church to cash it for him at the National Investment Bank (NIB).
The prosecution said the Pastor boarded a taxi driven by the accused and along the way got down to buy something leaving the bag containing the cheque in the taxi.
He said the Pastor later realised the cheque was missing when he reached home and informed Prophet Adarkwa-Yiadom who alerted management of the bank and when Issa attempted to cash the cheque he was arrested and handed over to the police and after investigations charged with the offence.
