The Ajumako Enyan-Essiam District Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr Joe B. Morrison, has advised Ghanaians to desist from activities that destroy the environment.
He said activities including indiscriminate destruction of the forest, cutting down of trees, wrong agriculture practices and setting of bush fires, caused desertification and drought, and must be avoided immediately.
Mr Morrison gave the advice at a durbar organised by the UNESCO club of the Bisease Senior High School at Ajumako Bisease, to mark World Environmental Day.
He appealed to the people to establish wood lots and plant trees within the communities, not for beautification but to serve as windbreaks to protect their houses.
Mr Edward Wilson, a tutor of the School who deputized for the Head Master, Mr Mark H. Mensah, thanked the Ghana Education Service (GES) for providing the school with a library and appealed to the GES and other organisations to help stock it.
He appealed to the GETFUND Administration to assist the school complete the new administration block complex under construction by the PTA.
