Mr Agaawena Stephen Akalebay, Headmaster of Namonsa Junior High School (JHS) in the Builsa District of the Upper East Region on Friday called for sex education to be intensified in schools.
He said parents should not shy away from educating their children on sex, and that, they must also take proper care of their children.
Mr Agaawena Stephen was speaking at a programme organised by the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in Chuchuliga to educate the students on morality.
The schools which participated in the programme were Chuchuliga JHS, Tedema JHS, Alang JHS and Namonsa JHS.
It was designed to distract the adolescents' attention from social vices which would have a negative effect on their academic life.
Mr Cornelius Zangyi, Local Chairman of GNAT, educated the children on the negative effect of sexual immorality and said it was a great sin before God.
Some of the students who spoke to the Ghana News Agency noted that poverty, poor parental care, peer influence, the adoption of Western culture and lack of education were the major causes of immorality in their communities.
