A circuit court in Kumasi, has sentenced Kojo Poku, a 33-year old barber, to 216 months imprisonment for defiling a 10-year old girl.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Mr. Emmanuel Amo-Yartey that the convict lived at Fante-New Town in Kumasi and operated a barbering salon at Ayigya Zongo, in the city.
Prosecution said on July 22, the victim complained of abdominal pain and told the mother that Poku had sexually abused her on five different occasions.
Chief Insp. Baffour-Kyei said the woman reported the case to the Manhyia Police Division of the Domestic Violence and Victims' Support Unit (DOVVSU) and a medical report confirmed that the girl was defiled.
Prosecution said Poku in a caution statement denied defiling the girl and indicated that she was a regular customer at the salon.
