A second hand clothes dealer who presented himself as a Police Officer and succeeded in arresting two mobile phone dealers for selling their wares at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, on Wednesday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court charged with impersonation.
Isaac Kofi Boakye, who has been additionally charged with forgery of documents, defrauding by false pretences and stealing, broke down in tears as he mounted the dock to answer charges preferred against him.
Boakye has pleaded not guilty and the court presided over by Mr. Joe Abanga has remanded him in Police custody to reappear on September 14.
Prosecuting Police Inspector Michaels Jubiok said the complainant, Sarfo Gyimah sells at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra, while the accused resides at Achimota Mile Seven in the Metropolis.
Prosecution said Boakye had in possession two fake police identity cards, which he used for his activities.
On August 13, Boakye introduced himself as a Police Officer from the National Police Training School at Tesano, in Accra and arrested Mr. Gyimah and Kwadwo Duka, a witness in the matter for allegedly selling three second hand mobile phones.
Boakye took them to the entrance of the National Police Training School where he told Gyimah and Duka that they would be beating if he sent them to his boss.
To avoid being beaten, Boakye demanded GH¢100 cash before releasing the phone to them.
Gyimah and Duka however offered Boakye GH¢ 20.00 and he handed over two of the phones to them with the intent that they produced the balance before they could take the remaining one.
On August 14, this year Gyimah spotted Boakye at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle and reported him to the Police at the Holy Gardens Police Station, who picked him up and retrieved the remaining phone from him.
Boakye told the Police that he has spent the GH¢ 20.00 he collected from his victims.
