Mr Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Nkoranza South District Chief Executive, has advised the physically handicapped to engage in ventures that would enhance their livelihood.
He urged parents to support and encourage their physically handicapped children develop their talents, so that they could contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the nation.
Mr Agyekum gave the advice when he presented GH¢ 200 to a partially blind family of three at Nkoranza.
Madam Adwoa Agyeiwaa, 58, and her two children Maxwell Baffoe, 18, and Theresa Ankomah 14 hail from Sessiman near Nkoranza.
Maxwell and Theresa are students at Bechem School for the Blind.
The DCE expressed worry about the condition of the family and advised the children to take their education seriously "since disability is not inability".
Mr Agyekum deplored the practice by some parents to deny such children formal education, by keeping them at home and advised such parents to change.
"People with disability should engage themselves in income generating activities or learn vocations so that they will not become liabilities in communities," the DCE said.
Mr. Agyekum gave the assurance that the District Assembly would not relent in its efforts in supporting activities of the physically handicapped and urged those who had not joined the association to do so.
Master Baffoe thanked the DCE for the gesture and assured him that he and his sister would concentrate on their academic work to be able to achieve high laurels.
