A Kumasi Circuit Court on Monday ordered the arrest of Charles Owusu Duah, an evangelist for causing the detention of a 19-year old driver's mate whom he accused of robbery.
Duah is to stand trial for deceit of public officer.
In August this year, he made a complaint to the police that he has been robbed of his cell phone at knife point at Krobo Odumase near Kejetia in Kumasi.
He alleged that he was in the company of one Agnes Amissah, a Christian sister, when he was attacked whilst the lady was pushed into a gutter as she tried to assist him to fend off the attack.
Duah led the police to a wooden structure where he said his attacker run into leading to the arrest of one Iddrisu Musa.
However, 19-year old Peter Boniface owned up and asked that Musa should be freed.
Boniface was put before the Circuit Court presided over by Mr. Justice Adjei Frimpong and was remanded into prison custody.
The accused denied the offence and rather accused Duah of taking Agnes into the wooden structure to have sex with her.
Boniface insisted that he caught the evangelist and the Christian sister right in the act, compelling Duah to voluntarily hand over the cell phone and two Ghana Cedis to him to keep quiet over the issue.
He said demanded five Ghana Cedis which Duah could not pay.
"The man pleaded with me to take the money and cell phone," he said.
Boniface told the Court that he gave the phone to one Kwame, a driver but because, he was in handcuffs, when he was led to the Techiman station at the Kejetia terminal, all the people the police spoke to denied knowledge of the driver.
Mr Justice Frimpong set Boniface free and blamed Duah for his detention.
