A 17-year-old boy was successfully rescued from an ice floe Monday after two technicians parachuted onto the ice in northern Canada's Nunavut Territories, reports reaching here said.
The two rescuers landed on a huge chunk of drifting ice off Southampton Island, in the mouth of Hudson Bay and then had to shimmy on their stomachs across ice floes to reach the youth, the Canadian Press reported.
The teen and his two rescuers were picked up by a search boat just before noon local time.
The teenager was suffering from hypothermia and frostbite and was taken to nursing station in the nearby community of Coral Harbor, Nunavut to be
assessed.
The boy had become separated from his uncle as they were returning home from a weekend hunting trip. He was spotted by a rescuers Sunday. The uncle had returned to Coral Harbor early.
