Kwame Baah, a 46-year old artisan from Saltpond, who allegedly wounded a man he was stealing from, making him unconscious, was on Wednesday remanded in custody, by a circuit court in Cape Coast.
The plea of Baah, who is facing charges of causing unlawful harm, stealing and causing damage, was not taken, pending further police investigations. He would be re-arraigned on Wednesday, December 2.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Gershon Awuye told the court presided over by Mrs Florence Otoo, that Baah and the complainant, Mr Arkaifie, were both residents of Saltpond.
He alleged that last Sunday, Baah broke into Mr Arkaifie's kiosk, situated in front of his (Arkaifie's) house, at about 12:30 hours and
attempted to steal a quantity of assorted drinks valued at GH¢20.00.
Chief Inspector Awuye said Arkaifie, who was awoken by the noise from the kiosk, caught Baah in the act.
He said when Baah realized that he had been caught he hit Arkaifie on the forehead with a stone, making him unconscious and took to his heels, leaving behind his booty and slippers.
Chief Inspector Awuye said Mr Arkaifie made a report to the police, and Baah was arrested.
He said Baah admitted in his caution statement that the slippers found at the scene of the crime were his.
