Women in Law and Development in Ghana (WILDAF) on Tuesday organised an educational campaign for women of Abokobi in the Ga East District to on
domestic violence.
It forms part of the group's women activism drive being undertaken in conjunction by the
New Jersey-based Rutgers University Centre for Women's Global Leadership, under the theme
"Commit, Act, Demand: We Can End Violence Against Women".
Addressing the participants, Mrs. Bernice Sam, National Coordinator of WILDAF Ghana,urged them to report domestic violence to the police for redress.
She mentioned physical, sexual, economic and emotional violence as some of the domestic
violence against women and children.
Mrs. Sam appealed to parents not to feel reluctant to report cases of domestic violence or
sexual abuse on their children to the police for the necessary action to be taken.
She cited Female Genital Mutilation and all forms of sexual abuse as some of the worse crimes against women.
Ms. Gifty Dzah, Deputy National Coordinator of WILDAF, advised women to educate their
colleagues on the need to avoid domestic violence as a perpetrator or victim.
On the World AIDS Day celebration on December 1, she appealed to the women not to shun AIDS patients in society but involve them in all activities.
