A soldier at the U.S. Fort Hood Army base, accused of going absent without leave after making threatening comments, was detained on Tuesday, Dallas police said.
Police officers arrested the 21-year-old private in Dallas, Texas, at the direction of military authorities and are holding him for military police. After a friend of the solider reported the soldier's alleged comments to authorities, Fort Hood officials contacted Dallas police, police spokesman Andy Harvey said.
"They were very concerned about it, and from what I understand, they were, might have been, very threatening in nature, and so I'm sure with what happened there recently, they were very sensitive to that," Harvey said.
An unloaded shotgun was found in the soldier's vehicle, according to police.
The matter is under investigation by Army personnel, said Chad Carroll, a spokeswoman for the 1st Calvary Division headquarters at Fort Hood.
U.S. military officials remain vigilant after Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan was arrested and charged last month with killing 13 service members and wounding more than three dozen others at Fort Hood.
Fort Hood is the largest active duty armored post in the United States with about 40,000 troops.
