The sale of cigarettes in packets of less than 20 sticks will be prohibited from June 1,2010.
Malaysian Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said in a statement that cigarette companies were given seven months from now until May 31, 2010, to
dispose of their stocks of small cigarette packets.
Liow stressed that the Malaysian government would not entertain any appeal on this matter and would enforce the ban fully beginning June 1, 2010.
Anyone found guilty of violating the regulation was liable to a fine of not more than 10,000 ringgit (2,857.14 U.S. dollars) or imprisonment
for a period of not more than two years.
