The issuing ceremony of the special stamp of Confucius Institute was held by Austrian Post Company in the post office building on Thursday.
It was the first stamp around the world with its theme of Confucius Institute, said the director of Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna, Dr. Trappl.
The design of the stamp consists of the teaching building of Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna, as well as the words of "Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna" at the bottom of stamp written both in German and Chinese.
According to the director of the stamp issuing department, Austrian Post Company, Erich Haas, the issuing number of the special stamp for the first time amounted to 3,000.
In the stamp issuing ceremony, Haas told reporters that to issue the special stamp with the theme of the Confucius Institute was due to the respect of Confucian Thought.
"Confucian Thought belongs to one of the most important philosophy and ideology in the world, which has great influence on Europeans, including Austrians," he said.
He also pointed out: "Such as the concept of harmony in Confucian Thought and his thinking concerning the harmonious relationship between man and nature, are currently also useful."
Confucius Institute is an educational and cultural exchange agency for promoting Chinese language and dissemination of Chinese culture, which engages mainly in providing Chinese learners in the world with normative, authoritative and modern teaching materials.
At present, 300 Confucius Institutes around the world has been established in more than 80 countries.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Vienna in Austria was jointly set up by Confucius Institute and the University of Vienna in
September 2006 with currently more than 600 students.
About 70 people including the former Austrian Ambassador to China, Mr. Wolte participated in the stamps issuing ceremony.
