The Israel Security Agency ("Shin Bet") revealed on Wednesday that it had captured two Palestinian cells which officials said were behind attacks against motorists.
The information was released after a court gag order was rescinded.
Authorities said one cell, made up of five residents of the village of Husan, near Bethlehem, were behind a near-lethal stoning attack against an Israeli motorist in November 2012, Israel Radio said.
The 60-year-old female driver sustained life-threatening injuries when she was hit in the head with a rock during the nighttime assault on her vehicle.
Officials said a 22-year-old man confessed to the attack, and that four others took part in the stoning. They will be charged with attempted murder and will be held until the end of proceedings against them, Ynet news reported.
Near Nablus, in the northern West Bank, military forces also arrested a gang that officials said were behind shooting and stone throwing attacks against Israelis in the vicinity.
The recent string of attacks came in support for Hamas in Gaza during Israel's recent Operation Pillar of Defense to suppress incessant rocket fire into Israeli cities and towns.
In some of the attacks, the accused would travel area roads and hurl stones at Israeli cars traveling in the opposing lane.
An Israeli father and infant son were killed in such an attack near Hebron in September 2011.
