The Sunyani Central Rotary Club has constructed a modern sanitary facility for traders at the Nana Bosoma Central Market in Sunyani.
The facility, which comprises a 12-seater water closet, reservoir and hand washing bay, is estimated at GH¢74,100.
The club has also constructed a mechanized borehole estimated at GH¢23,000 in the market.
Dr Kofi Nyamaah-Koffuor, Club President, said it realised that the market was highly patronised by the residents in Sunyani and its environs but lacked a place of convenience and other sanitary facilities.
He explained that because of the lack of the facility people defecated indiscriminately in the market, worsening the sanitation problem.
Dr Nyamaah-Koffuor expressed the hope that the beneficiaries and caretakers of the facility would ensure regular maintenance.
Mr Ameyaw Gyamfi, Sunyani Municipal Coordinating Director, thanked the club for its numerous contributions to the development of the municipality and expressed optimism that it would extend such assistance to other communities.
He said a management committee made up of representatives of the assembly, the club and the market would soon be formed to properly manage the facility.
Mr Gyamfi expressed the optimism that the relationship between the club, the municipal assembly and the traders would be strengthened for mutual benefits.
